Finance Keeping

Minding Your Cash

A Case Study for Entrepreneurs

This case study is a true story about a successful entrepreneur who got a business up and running in two different states and managed that business for nearly 10 years always struggling to make the next payroll and pay all her bills. She worked hard and her sales were strong, but the harder she worked, the harder it was to grow and make money. Her bank account was always empty even after healthy cash infusions from family and friends and a loan from the government.

"Why? Why am I not making money?" She threw up her hands one day in dismay. "My sales are strong and I'm working so hard. Where did my money all go?"

And then one day, after nearly two years of trying to get her books in order, she asked three very important questions: 1) Why do accounting? 2) Why should I do it on time? and 3) Is it wise to delegate this kind of work?

Part 1 of this case study explores the first two questions. It focuses on the need for good financial records. Part 2 of the case study explores the third question. It focuses on the need for a good Finance Keeper. And at the end of each part, there is a brief homework assignment with solutions provided via email upon request from the reader. I hope you will join me reviewing these very important issues. I would love to share thoughts with you!

Inspirational Books

Butterflies Pause, I said to myself one day. They go really fast and then stop for a moment and fold up their wings. Maybe...to contemplate, I think, and maybe...to breathe.
